A lot of bathrooms have been built over again and again. You often don't know what's hiding under the old tiles until they're off. Rather than patching new work onto old problems, I take it all back until it's solid and workable again.
The old bathroom comes out completely, and anything rotten or suspect goes with it. Old tiles, tired plasterboard, crumbling lath and plaster: if it isn't sound, it comes out, back to the bare bones of the structure. That gives a clean, sound base for the new materials to go onto.
I don't just connect onto the old pipes and say "that'll do". I take up the floorboards and look at where the old waste pipes were run, how they were run, and whether they ever drained properly. Then I cut the hot and cold back to where they come into the room and run all new pipework from there. Nothing capped off and left to cause problems later.
I'll show you what's actually behind the walls and under the floor, including the things you didn't know were there, and explain what the plumbing needs and why. Then we plan the new room together: where everything goes, how the tiles are set out, and how they line up with the pipework and fittings.
